About Us

Welcome to Wildhare Whippets!    Thank you for stopping by.

Dwight and Paula Caffee have had dogs in their lives almost from the moment they were married.   They always felt their family was incomplete without a dog.

Like many people, they started with mixed breeds and also had purebred pets.   Their first choice of purebreds was Newfoundlands in the 70's.   When they decided to get a second breed, they chose Whippets.

Paula and Dwight had always enjoyed going to dog shows together.   They decided to start showing again after being out of the sport for some time.   This time, with the idea of pursuing Whippets as their primary interest, they researched the breed while Dwight handled dogs for clients at the dog shows.   They spoke with many breeders before they finally found help getting started.   Fortuitously, at a show where Dwight was handling a client's dog, they met Carolynn Bates (Cajen Whippets).   The Caffees acquired two Whippets from Carolynn in 1997:   CH Cajen Coquette and Cajen Fillette JC.

Wildhare Whippets have received many awards in the show ring and when they received their first group placement, Paula's scream of joy was memorable!

The Caffees will be forever grateful to Carolynn Bates for her generous guidance throughout the years.   Carolynn's mentorship has ensured that the Caffees received a well-rounded education.   They were introduced to all sorts of whippet activities and now enjoy lure coursing and race meets as well as conformation shows.   The joy they get from watching their whippets run is always uplifting.   Dwight's straight racing track on their 10-acre property in northeastern Oklahoma is a work-in-progress.   Although it's not yet ready for competition events, it works great as a means to exercise and train their whippets.

Dwight and Paula don't breed often, but when they do it is produce a puppy for themselves.   Of course they can't keep every puppy from a litter.   So when they do have a litter, it will be announced on the Puppies page.   If there are no puppies at Wildhare, Dwight and Paula will be glad to refer you to a reputable breeder.

So, welcome to Wildhare Whippets.   Pull up a chair, have a cup of joe, and wander through this website.   Please take a moment to sign the guest book and share your thoughts.

Again thanks for stopping by.
